Beating The Winter Blues
By Karon February 2012

Feel like you’re living in a cave this winter? Well it might be cold and grey outside, but that doesn’t mean the inside of your home has to be cold and grey too!

February is the perfect time to make a change, so take this opportunity to add some new life to your rooms with paint. Green is the hot color this year; it really is the perfect backdrop, a neutral that goes with so many colors. Green sets a tone for happiness and can brighten even the gloomiest of days.

Shake off those wintery blues with a sunroom painted in a rich, cheery apple green, like Benjamin Moore’s Perennial #405 or New Lime #2025-30, it really satisfies that craving for color we all so desperately need this time of year. Accents of pink, brown, or blue and white added to a room will make you feel like you’re relaxing in a sunny courtyard surrounded by Mother Nature herself.

A soft silvery green like Pratt and Lambert Haze Green #18-30, or Benjamin Moore’s Chameleon #526 would be perfect for a small office or guest room – giving a lighter, calming effect.

If you’re afraid of too much color, keep your walls a soft white with Benjamin Moore’s Simply White #OC-117, and add accents like pillows in a green lattice or floral pattern.

Another way to add life to your rooms this winter is with fresh flowers. Find some colorful vases in various shapes and sizes, pick up some inexpensive fresh flowers from your local grocer and place them around your home where you will enjoy them most often – like your kitchen, bath, and bedside table. Replacing the spent flowers each week will keep your spirits high during these cold months.
