Hello from Sun Valley Lake, my little cottage far away from the hustle and bustle of life, located in the middle of nowhere, and I do mean the middle of nowhere. We have taken up residence here during the remodeling process at our house; we have only been here a couple of days and so far every appliance here has decided to stop working, namely the important ones like the coffee pot and my blow dryer, the internet is available, only if I stand in the farthest corner on the upper veranda and suspend my computer over the edge of the rail, and the nearest anything is about 25 miles away. This has only confirmed what I have been telling my husband forever – I am definitely a city girl! It’s a nice place to visit…but I can’t wait to get back home!
We have had heaps of progress this last week; the oak boards were delivered on Friday so that they would have time to get acclimated to our house. The installers arrived bright and early on Monday morning and started putting down the new floor. The crown molding is up; it looks incredible and I can’t wait for the painter to get some creamy white paint on it! We only did the living room and dining room for now and trimmed out a few doorways, the rest of the house will have to wait! It is so beautiful; it makes me smile every time I see it. I will make my final decision on the paint colors for the walls after the floor has been stained, a neutral backdrop so I can switch out my pillows and décor for each season. It’s amazing how wood can transform the feel of a home and give it so much warmth and character. We are picking out a stain for the floor today, and I know however this floor turns out it will be beautiful. I was so happy when they tore out that icky carpet, it instantly made a difference in how my house felt. With kids, grandkids, animals, and a husband who likes to get dirty, you just can’t go wrong with wood floors! We were thinking of getting one of those robotic vacuum cleaners to pick up all the dog hair, does anyone out there have one? If so, let me know how you like it!
